
Chungthang, 08 Sept:Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Chungthang, Arun Chettri, along with Officer Commanding, (GREF), Lt. Colonel Ravish Attri, Captain Suraj, and Revenue Staff, conducted a field inspection of the originating point of the recent landslide at Chakung Chu North Sikkim.The landslide had caused scare among those living along the river in the lowlying areas.
The team assessed the landslide zone to ascertain the potential future threat, stability of the affected slope, and possible danger of further slides, particularly in view of the proximity to the Chakung Chu and the ongoing road construction activities in the area.
During the inspection, the team also assessed the extent of damage to private land caused by the landslide and reviewed the impact on the ongoing construction of the Toong–Partem Road.
The concerned officials were directed to closely monitor the vulnerable area and assess the requirement for preventive and protective measures to minimise the risk to public safety, private property and road connectivity.
‘The administration is maintaining close coordination with the concerned agencies and will take necessary measures based on the findings of the field assessment,'( with inputs from office of SDM Chungthang).
