Gangtok:21st Oct :Bada Dashain’ was celebrated here today as well as across whole Sikkim. After 9 days ‘Nowrataa’, it was the main day of ‘ Dashain Tika’.
All over the town people were seen moving in beautiful traditional dresses only to visit their relatives.The ‘ Dashain’ Tika’ , is applied by elders to youngers mostly while matras are chante d. Tika is of red colour and mixed with rice curd ( by Chettri – bahun communities )and called ‘akshata’. It symbolises something good -auspicious. While Rice symbolises prosperity. The Grand parents , parents ,Gurus and Purohits bless the young ones .They also give younger ones ‘Dakshina’ ( cash). It is followed by feasting and prasad of Goddess Durga worshipped for 9 days.
It will go on till full Moonday as usual. And the festivities would continue. NN
