Kolkata:20th July: West Bengal Chief Minister
. Subendu Adhikari announced today ,in Assembly regarding the use and promotion of Bangla and other regional languages in all government departments, autonomous bodies, board, corporations, and local bodies from September 1, 2026.
Following the announcement MP Darjeeling Raju Bista ,received messages from several people concerned about the use and status of Nepalese and other regional languages.
As a result MP Bista ,spoke to the Chief Minister regarding languages.According to MP Bista, ‘ He( CM Adhikari) has said very clearly that the government is fully aware of West Bengal and especially of Darjeeling mountains and Terai, and Doovers region, the rich linguistic and cultural diversity. He stated that this is a government’s initiative to encourage the use of other regional languages including Nepalese instead of using English primarily in administration and government work.’
‘This initiative is in accordance with the Indian Government’s idea to encourage the increased use of Indian languages in administration and government operations. A recent message issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to encourage comprehensive use of Indian languages in government operations highlights the importance of making administration more accessible, inclusive, and citizen-centered. This announcement today in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly demonstrates this comprehensive national purpose,’ said MP.
MP said, he wants to assure everyone that Nepalese and all other accredited regional languages will continue to receive the same respect, recognition, and encouragement. Chief Minister Subendu Adhikari is extremely aware and sensitive about the sentiments of the people and he has a sense of high respect towards the people of Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region. Rest assured that the BJP government will do everything possible to preserve the linguistic and cultural heritage of every region of our state, ensuring that the administration is increasingly inclusive and accessible to all.’
