Gangtok:30th Sept:Sikkim Govt through Deptt of AH & VS ,led by Minister Purna Gurung ,is gearing up to hold grand Yak Fest .
Minister said here today ,it will be linked to Tourism.Our CM PS Tamang is the Co-patron of Yak Federation of India. Rajya Sabha MP Dorjee Bhutia is also keen on saving Yaks and happened to raise the issue in Parliament also.Kiren Rijjiju is on the Advisory Board.Arunachal CM Pema Khandu is the President/ Patron.Thupden Lachungpa is the GS of Federation.
Principal Director Dr Karma Bhutia ,said,’Yaks are protectors of Himalayas and asdociated with religion too .We want to save Yaks.In the process an association of Yak herders ,with the involvement of Cooperation deptt here has been formed . It has been integrated with other Yak rearing States.
‘Central Govt has permitted us to form a federation of Yak rearing States.So now we have one it includes Laddakh,Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh.Our main aim is also to prevent Yaks from reducing in number,to have proper way to rear them.And give priority to Yak Farmers.During the Festival in Gnathang,in the end of October we will honour maximum Yaj rearing family,their Children and best Yaks used for roding also decorated
Dr Karma added,that by the end of October Himalayan Yak Festival is expected.Only waiting for a date convenient to CM either on 28,29th or 39th October’26.Inspire under Planning Deptt will be funding us.We will be supported by Ashoka instirute and GB Pant institute for advertising and other important issues.Nepal has Yak day and Bhutan also celebrates Laya Yak Fest annually.We too are going to start now.( NN)
