Gangtok:10th June: BJP Sikkim, has expressed deep anguish over the unfortunate incident involving alleged physical assault of local driver by Army personnel near Shiv Mandir while returning from Zero Point, Lachung.
‘The people of Sikkim have always held the Indian Army in the highest esteem and regard. The relationship between the Army and the people of Sikkim has historically been one of mutual trust, respect, and cooperation, serving as an exemplary model of civil-military harmony in the larger interest of national unity, border security, and public welfare,’ according to BJP Sikkim State.
‘Given Sikkim’s strategic importance as a sensitive border state, cordial and constructive relations between the armed forces and local communities remain vital for the security and sovereignty of the nation. The people of Sikkim have consistently extended wholehearted support, goodwill, and hospitality to our armed forces, recognising their immense contribution and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation.’
‘However, any isolated incident involving alleged misconduct or use of unlawful force against civilians is deeply unfortunate and unacceptable. Taking the law into one’s own hands and physically assaulting civilians is unbecoming and contrary to the values of discipline and professionalism for which the Indian Army is widely respected.’
‘BJP Sikkim firmly believes that such isolated incidents must not be allowed to weaken the longstanding bond of trust between the Army and the people. At the same time, accountability and justice are essential to preserving public confidence and maintaining the dignity of institutions.’
State BJP ,has urged the concerned authorities to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter and ensure that those found responsible are dealt with in accordance with the law. Prompt and appropriate action will help reinforce faith in justice and further strengthen the cherished relationship between the Army and the people of Sikkim.’
