Gangtok:9th June:Sikkim CM participated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Exchange Ceremony under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 between the Government of Sikkim and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, held in New Delhi today in the presence of Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil .
CM said,’ the Jal Jeevan Mission, has transformed access to safe drinking water in rural areas across the country, including Sikkim.’
CM acknowledged the invaluable support of the Government of India in addressing the unique challenges of developing water supply infrastructure in Sikkim’s mountainous terrain. Reaffirming ‘commitment to Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, he highlighted the importance of sustainability, source protection, water quality, and long-term maintenance, which are particularly crucial for a fragile Himalayan State like Sikkim.’
CM ,also urged the Ministry to consider extending central assistance for retrofitting and capacity augmentation projects that were approved or initiated prior to the notification of JJM 2.0 guidelines. These projects were undertaken in accordance with the earlier norms, and the State had invested substantial resources with the expectation of receiving central assistance.
