Gangtok:8th July :Forest and Environment Minister flagged off and then joined ‘ Green Walk’ today,from Titanic Park to Forest office Deorali. He was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr Pradeep Kumar; Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Department, Dr P. Senthil Kumar.The theme of GW was ‘Leaving a Green Legacy.’
Presently Fourth edition of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva fortnight 1st to 14th July, is being observed accross the State.
Addressing the gathering Minister Pintso Namgyal Lepcha said , ‘the walk was organised to promote environmental awareness and reaffirm the department’s commitment to the State’s green vision.’He further highlighted the initiative under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, encouraging people to adopt walking for short distances as a simple yet effective way to stay fit, maintain good health and reduce unnecessary environmental pollution.
The Minister also spoke about ‘A Day for Mother Earth’, observed yesterday, during which all non-emergency vehicular traffic across the State was halted for seven minutes, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:07 a.m. The initiative aimed to reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainable living, and reinforce the importance of conserving Sikkim’s rich natural heritage.
Green Walk took place from 2 other locations also including N.B. Bhandari Degree College Gate
and Syari Taxi Stand to Forest office, Deorali.
