Gangtok,9th Oct:: Rhenock Rungdung ‘Mataji’ has ascended to Heaven. She has left a vacuum and also spread a wave of shock across the village and nearby areas.
‘Mataji’,used to give audience to believers at Mata Golai Temple.She was accepted as the one who could predict their future,a faultless fortune teller!She was visited before even thinking of going to doctors People believe she had divine powers and was possessed.They often saw her going into trance while her whole body happened to shake.
About the ritual as one of the eyewitnesses has experienced, ‘A big cotton sheet was spread on the floor , with a ‘Jokhana Thal'( Fortune Plate) over it’.
‘Mataji picked up thw tripod( trishul) from the rhal and rouched the stomach of the person sitting in front of her. And uttered ‘ an evil spirit has possesed him. She performed more ritual to free him of the evil spirit ‘, according to eyewitness Bhim Rawat.
Actually the ‘Mataji’ also did formal spiritual ritual for those disciples who were on their way to becoming ‘Dhami,Jhankri( Shamans)’ .They were given a Kalash ‘ (earthen water container) and Diya ( earthen lamp).
