Gangtok,3rd Nov : Journalist Union of Sikkim in collaboration with the Indian Journalist Union and supported by the Centre for International Relations,Poland hosted a Seminar on ‘Disinformation & Misinformation in Media:Meeting the Big Challenge,in the Digital Age.
Attended by around 20 journalists,it was an interactive session ,with Key note Speaker Prof Dr Malgorzata Bonikowska in Warsaw University Poland and Secretary General IJU Sabina Inderjit ,enlightened the participants addressing the issues raised by some of them.
Dr Bonikowska,speaking about the latest trend in Europe, said , ‘In Europe small pieces of news online get importance,not long stories or reporting about long events.So fake accounts — are made,by other country, they use Artificial Intelligence.She added ‘role of traditional media is decreasing,people take news from internet.
Prof mentioned Disinformation War and Cyber attacks and Disinformation used as a tool of war also.’ Reporters should be able to discriminate between what is right and otherwise.Not to report what is not important Not to follow any opinions.Not to rely on one opinion solely.Always check your facts’, added Prof.
Secy General Sabina ,’ said ‘ Social Media should be regulated.It has to be responsible not anonymous.’According to Secy General,Digital laws are being made ,but those should be made after due consultation with the stake holders.’
