Gangtok:27th Aug: A State-level consultative meeting on the conservation plan of the Ratey Chu watershed was convened at Tashiling Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, R. Telang, IAS. The meeting was coordinated by the Forest & Environment Department and attended by representatives from various line departments, scientific institutions and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The primary agenda of the meeting was to prepare a comprehensive conservation plan for the Ratey Chu watershed, the vital source of drinking water for Gangtok town.
The Chief Secretary emphasised the need for a micro-level, future-oriented conservation plan. He stressed that the plan must incorporate public participation and awareness-building on water conservation across the State.
‘Underscoring the urgency of the matter, the Chief Secretary directed the departments to closely monitor progress with measurable indicators, ‘as per the communique from office of the CS.
