Gangtok:14th June: Sikkim Anglers’ Association has announced ‘Chirberay River Festival ‘here today. Vice President
Timothy William Basnet ,Project Director Udai Rai and Dr Prakash Scientist ICA R, in a Curtain raiser to the Chirberay R F , said they have been aiming at conservation.
‘Protecting the aquatic eco System and to build sustainable system for it is our main objective.We want to promote angling as a Sport via ‘Catch and Release’.Not from stream to pan ( just catching and cooking it for consumption).Anglers Asdociation registered in 2000 had KC Pradhan then Chief Secretary as the President.We are gping to make Chirberay River side into a tourist destination and hub for angling,’ said Basnet.
Project Director Udai Rai disclosed that’ ,A three day Chirberey River Fest will be organised in the end of September month.We will ensure conservation of nature. To make it sistainable local entrepreneurs will also be involved. ‘
Udai Rai PD added, ‘ it is also to commemorate our remarkable journey of 25years, while linking our natural resources with tourism. We are collaborating with Govt of Sikkim’s Deptt of Fisheries. We aim to contribute further towards River Conservation, eco -toueism and sustainable environment as also promoting angling . ‘
Scientist Dr Prakash,laid stress on need for funds.He said ,’ if Fish sanctuary could be created it would help towards conservation.At the same time he suggested having restaurant exclusively serving fish to customers.’
Prakash said if sanctuary is there many tpurists would be attracted.Angling will be developed and more homestays will be created die to need.’
The Anglers’ Asdociation has taken up River Chirberay ‘s Bank for fest angling dtc because they say its suitable from all points of view, including approach from Gangtok, Namchi Darjeeling and other nearby areas. It has a wide area and Jorethang is nearby. And of course the Fish.
