Gangtok:15th Jan: CM PS Tamang met the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Suman K. Bery , to review Sikkim’s development journey, key achievements, and future priorities. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on the state’s progress and long-term developmental vision.
The Vice Chairman ,appreciated Sikkim’s remarkable progress, particularly its rise to the top position nationally in per capita income,said CM.
CM Tamang, shared that this ‘achievement reflects his Government’s unwavering commitment to people-centric governance, with sustained focus on health, education, and environmental sustainability.’
During the discussion, deliberations on several key challenges took place ,including the impact of vulnerable road connectivity on tourism, which remains the backbone of Sikkim’s economy. CM Tamang , emphasised the urgent need for an alternative highway alignment alongside NH-10 to ensure resilient connectivity and support long-term development. And reiterated Sikkim’s continued commitment to remaining a 100% organic state and sought support for strengthened branding, marketing, and cold-chain infrastructure to ensure fair and remunerative returns for our farmers’.
According to CM, issues relating to ‘ urban overcrowding were also discussed, with emphasis on sustainable urban mobility, satellite town development, and alternative transport solutions. Under the shared vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Sikkim, further discussion was on strengthening border trade and border tourism, including the proposed resumption of Nathula trade and the expansion of cross-border trade with Nepal through the Chewabhanjyang corridor.’
CM has expressed gratitude for the ‘ consistent support of the Government of India under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi .’
