Speaker SLA attends 28th Conference of Speakers in Delhi

Gangtok/ Delhi:15th Jan: Speaker Sikkim Legislative assembly,Mingma Norbu Sherpa , accompanied by Lalit Kumar Gurung, Secretary, Sikkim Legislative Assembly attended the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) which was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex.

The Conference was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The welcome remarks were presented by , Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha Harivansh followed by remarks by Dr. Tulia Ackson ,President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Christopher Kalila, Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. Om Birla Speaker, Lok Sabha, the Chairperson for 28th CSPOC ,also addressed the conference.

The conference will deliberate on contemporary parliamentary issues, including the role of Presiding Officers in strengthening democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on Members of Parliament, and innovative ways to enhance citizen participation beyond voting.The conference brings together 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers from 42 Commonwealth countries and four semi-autonomous legislatures.
