Gangtok, July 28: BJP Sikkim State President DR Thapa today met Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, Prof. Shantanu Kumar Swain, at the SU office, Tadong. During the meeting, discussions were held on the overall functioning of Sikkim University, with special focus on the shifting of the institution to its permanent campus at Yangang and the progress of the second phase of campus construction.
The Vice Chancellor informed SSBJP President, Thapa that the University administration has been coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition. He further informed that out of the total 33 departments of the University, 6 departments have already been shifted to the Yangang campus. Considering the ongoing semester examinations and monsoon conditions, the remaining shifting process is planned for October 2026 to avoid disruption to academic activities.
Thapa, requested the University administration to expedite the second phase of campus development so that students and faculty members do not face any inconvenience and the institution can function effectively from its permanent campus at the earliest. He appreciated the efforts of the University administration and assured full support in addressing issues related to the institution’s development. He reiterated that strengthening education infrastructure and ensuring student welfare remain key priorities, according to State BJP.
