Gangtok:26th June:Jagriti De-addiction Centre observed International Anti Drugs Abuse and illicit Trafficking Day, here at Sichey today . The programme turned more into a celebration as the Project Director led Jagriti IRCA happened to be honoured by Depatt of Social Wefare at Chintan Bhawan in the morning today. The Jagriti ICRA de addiction centre ,sichey has secired second position among the NGOs running rehabs in Sikkim.First being Freedom Facility run by KC , Nima Tathangchen.
Project Director ,Mangalmit Lepcha ,attributed the success to her whole team and President NGO Sharda Pradhan with Secretary Khush Kumari Subba and all others ,for Jagriti being recognised for providing quality care,peofessional counselling ,social reintegration and recovery .
The day event became further significant as the Advocate Pema Bhutia, Thinley Ongmu Bhutia Bhutia from DALSA held awareness generation session ,in the First phase.
Advocate Pema Bhutia, from Distt Legal Services Authorities ,delivering his address among the inpatients, stressed the need for stringent rules for peddlers . He said 99%of them are only interested in making money and hardly take to drig addiction. He said the inpatients in rehabs should be given vocational training so that once discharged they can do something to earn. He suggested the authorities of Jagriti to apply for trainings as per interest of the boys in the centre.
‘Children/ youth ate our future so we have to decide if we want to make them drug addicts or good healthy citizens’.Advocate said today’s legal awareness programme ,under NALSA( DAWN -Drug awareness and wellness navigation aims at drug free India, and was started in Sikkim also last year.
Advocate Pema joined by DLSA member Thinley Ongmu Bhutia informed the gathering about services hat can be availed of from Distt legal services and State LS Authorities, here.
The inpatients presented a very touching play , poems and songs.They were given prize for that.
the programme culminated with encouraging note from Prez Mrs Pradhan to inmates to say no to Drugs and Project Director expressing gratitude.
