Gangtok, June 26: In a step towards strengthening scientific research and higher education in Sikkim, High-Performance Computational (HPC) Facility has been established at the Department of Physics, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College (NBBGC), Tadong, under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of Hon’ble Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba.
The HPC facility has been established to enhance teaching and research in computational materials science. It will support advanced research in condensed matter physics and spintronics through the use of Density Functional Theory (DFT) and other first-principles computational methods. The facility will enable researchers and students to investigate the electronic, magnetic, structural, and transport properties of advanced materials with greater accuracy and computational efficiency.
The establishment of this advanced research infrastructure reflects the commitment of Hon’ble MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba towards strengthening scientific and educational institutions in Sikkim through the MPLADS. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for students and researchers, promote innovation, and contribute to the development of a strong research ecosystem in the institution.
The HPC facility marks a significant milestone for the Department of Physics of the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College. It is expected to substantially enhance the department’s research capabilities, promote academic excellence, and facilitate collaborative research in computational science, materials science, and other emerging areas of physics, according to the information from The office of the MP (Lok Sabha )
