
Siliguri : 8th edition of Mango festival has started here ,at City Centre.The festival organised by Modella School in collaboration with Association for Conservation and Tourism ,had Football icon Bhaichung Bhutia as the Chief Guest and Mayor Gautam Deb as Guest of Honour.
The ACT, led by President ,Jasoda Chettri,had Special Guests from neighbouring countries ,including Dasho T.Tshering from Bhutan and
and Atal Karki ,Tourism Advisor to Govt of Nepal.
The members of ACT felicitated the Founder – Patron of Modella School,Reba Bose ,through the students All the prominent guests were presented a mango sapling,mangoes and offered khada.
Bhaichung Bhutia , appealed to the gathering to grow more plants.’ Let all of us contribute to environment in if not for us let it be for our future generation.’ Through the Mango festival we. learn about the growers at the grassroots .Eat and enjoy Mangoes here.If we dont encourage Mango growers in future we will only see plastic mangoes made by Scientists.’
‘ We all know of harms caused by Climate change ,like the Teesta floods land slides and more.So it’s our responsibilty to plant more trees,conserve the greenery and make our country and world greenery and stop plastic pollution.’
Principal ,Modella School ,stressed on greenery and highlighted the reason behind organizing the fest.
President of ACT,Jasoda Chettri ,said 70 stalls have been put up by Mango growers from different regions.Encouraging growers is also important, she said.
On 7th June Mango eating competition will be there in besides in selection of best variety of Mango of the year from among those exhibited,’ she added.
