Gangtok:23rd Aug:Special Olympics Bharat,Sikkim Chapter hosted a Family Health Awareness programme here, today at a local hotel. Led by Kuber Chandra Sharma, it was attended by Advisor to SOB Sikkim,Tenzing la , Chairman SIMFED and Chairman , Youth & Sports Development Board and Sikkim Olympics Rinzing Chopel Bhutia. A huge gathering of Parents and some doctors also attended.
Chief Guest, Tenzing Dorjee,addressing the gathering said such meetings of SoB should be held in all the Six distt. That would help parents of disabled children to talk about their problems and feelings. He said he is ready to help always . And knows how different it is to bring up such children. He has been already helping an institution.
About the demands raised by Parents representative ,he was happy to convey that he wand Sports development Board Chairman Rinzing Wangyal Chopel, will meet CM and inform him about the problems.The demands included Playgrounds for special children and some income for their parents.
However those registered with govt are already allowed lifelong pension for disabled .
Guest of Honour Rinzing Wangyal Chopel,came up with instant solution to the problem of lack of playgrounds. He said many School premises are preSpecial Olympics Sikkim sently vacant so in those areas the grounds can be used. But borh of them CG and he will place the issue before CM also for other places to be taken care of.
Dr CK Nepal and Dr Upasana Gurung,STNM hospital ,generated awareness among the parents of Special Children.And highlighted the ways and means to identify them at an early stage .They also stressed on proper behaviour,communicating, listening to them.
Dr Remon Chettri, Sports Director,SOB Sikkim Chapter presented the major achievement and road map ahead for 2026-7.

Earliet,Kuber Sharma, presenting the brief overview said,’There are 11 Thousand registered Special. hildren and more are yet to be registered.
Emergency Meeting was called today at the direction of Special Olympics Bharat ‘s President Dr .Mallika Nadda.Wife of JP Nadda ,as she called up from Delhi for the same.
In future SOB Sikkim Chapter will be organising Distt level Sports and games for Divyangjan ( Special Children) in Sept +Oct. Futasal Aug-Sept.More programmes on International Disability Day 3rd Dec.
