Darjeeling / Gangtok: 5th Aug: 78th Foundation Day of Darjeeling Government College organised jointly by the Government College, Darjeeling family and the Alumni Association was attended by CM as the Chief Guest
Minister-in-Charge of Tourism and Affairs, Government of West Bengal; Shankar Ghosh, Minister of State for Home and Hill Affairs Bishal Lama , MLA, Darjeeling Noman Rai and other guests.
CM said on record , ‘It was a deeply emotional and nostalgic moment for me to return to my alma mater and be present not here merely as a guest, but as a proud alumnus of this revered temple of learning.Standing once again in the institution that shaped my dreams, values, and journey in life filled me with immense pride and gratitude. I remain forever indebted to my respected teachers and this great institution for laying the foundation of my future.’
CM Tamang interacting with the local media said,’ I am here as the ex student of College than CM .I am very happy to meet my class friends after 36 years.We studied here together in the Geography deptt.I am relishing the memories of those days.We should never forget our academic institutions,schools and colleges ,we studied in.Its good to contribute also as per one’s capacity.Never think rhat having studied in Govt College you wont be able to do anything,there are many IPS,IAS and other ex students from this College.( CM did not say CM – Ministers as it was obvious due to his own presence).
In his message to present students he urged them to ‘pursue knowledge with dedication and avail of the opportunities, learn from teachers and uphold the values of humility, unity, and service. Along with academic excellence, build strong character and take pride in the culture and heritage.’
CM thanked the Alumni Association for strengthening the bond between the College and its former students. And said ‘Let us all work together to uphold the legacy of our beloved institution and contribute towards quality education and nation-building.
