Financial Literacy for Senior Citizens is Important: Deputy Manager SBI Roshan Bano
Gangtok:26th May: A Financial Literacy peogramme was hosted by rhe State Bank of India, here today. It was particularly for Senior Citizens.
‘ All should have habit of saving money,it helps in the longrun also.At least once a month Bank should be visited, to check any thing you need to know about your accounts. Never send your children to bank with your ATM cards to know the balance,’ said Roshan Bano Deputy Manager .Giving example of a recent case Bano said, ‘Frauds mostly start at home.While playing games on mobile phones, money keeps on going out. Some times children transfer money to their friends, without the knowledge of parents and they later find all the money lost.’She informed about schemes for children wherein with a small amount of investment you can get them a good sum when they grow up.
SBI Gangtok,has Two recently appointed employees called ‘ Sewa Sarthi’, they are there to help you in case of any query issue,’ added Bano.
SBI Financial Literacy Councillor,Leena Dutta,advised ladies to have joint account.And to keep all at home about their money,locker etc.But dont give password to anyone.Keep on changing password.Loans can be availed of till 76 years of age.
Saurabh Kumar, highlighted WhatsApp banking , which can be done by just posting Hi fron mobile phone and the process will take place. Customers can block their ATM Cards, check balance , statement also. He stressed netbanking is nothing to be scare of.
FD incharge Karma Bhutia,informed about various types of investments and why are they good for customers.Besides FDs he said if investment is foe longterm one can go for market ,including Mutual Funds.High risk funds ate not good for senior citizens.He also highlighted Child edication plan,helpful to educate children.Health insurance is also one pf the schemes that customers find good.’
On the whole the SBI authorities laid emphasis on being independent financially,so that when in need no need to ask others.Even from Govt we should not always ask if they dont spend on individuals the money can be used elsewhere..
However ,summing up Deputy Manager R Bano said they have already generated awareness among Police here,next they will do so for College students ,School students and Self Help Groups.
