Gangtok: 13th July: 212th Bhanu Jayanti was observed at Bhanu Park here today in the morning. Governoe OPMathur was the Chief Guest , he was joined by Minister Arun Upreti as the Guest of Honour. The event was observed in a low key due to ongoing one day national mourning on the demise of former emir Sheikh of Qatar.Nepali Sahitya Parishad,Sikkim hosted the annual programme.
The Governor offer floral tributes at the life sise statue of Pioneer poet Acharya Bhanu Bhakta. He was followed by Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs Ven Sonam Lama, Minister RDD Arun Upreti, MLA Gangtok Delay Namgyal and MLA Shyari T N Lamtha. All orhers also offered khadas .
Governor cancelled his address to the gathering,( mourning).There were no speeches on the occasion.
The Shobha Yatra followed immediately from the Bhanu Udyan to Manan Kendra via MLA hostel,Tibet road to Titanic road.School students bearning placards and some in their ethnic costumes marched in the procession.The shobha yatra was led by Minister Upreti, Minister Lama,2 MLAs ,Mayor T Palden ,Prezident NESAP Hari Dhungel,General Secretary Bhim Rawat, member working committee -Joseph Lepcha and others
