
Pakyong, March 22 (IPR): The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of West Pendam Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (MPCS) was held today at Government Junior High School, Singlebong, West Pendam.
The meeting was attended by Mr. LB Das, MLA of West Pendam and Advisor, Land Revenue & Disaster Management, IT, and IPR Department, Government of Sikkim, as the chief guest.
The AGM was organized to mark 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood and the International Year of Cooperatives. The meeting focused on financial audits, operational reviews, and the distribution of bonuses and dividends.
In his speech, Mr. LB Das explained the role of cooperative societies, stating that shareholders have the flexibility to expand business activities. He emphasized the need for honesty in cooperative management and assured government support for any challenges faced by MPCS.
Ms. Kesaang Yanki, Additional Registrar, Cooperation Department, highlighted various government initiatives under the Ministry of Cooperation, such as:
PM Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY) – Supporting tribal entrepreneurship.
Computerisation of PACS – Improving digital access for cooperatives.
PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras – Providing affordable medicines in rural areas.
Common Service Centres (CSCs) – Enhancing e-services for citizens.
PACS as PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PMKSK) – Ensuring biofertilizer availability for farmers.
PACS as LPG distributors – Expanding gas supply services.
National Cooperative Database – Strengthening cooperative sector monitoring.
She also informed that 2025 has been declared the International Year of Cooperatives with the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World” and urged collective efforts for Sunaulo ani Samriddhi Sikkim.
During the meeting, Mr. Dushyant Pradhan, Audit Officer, Cooperation Department, presented the financial audit report, reviewing income, expenditure, and profit.
The MPCS distributed bonuses and dividends to its members, the Government of Sikkim, and the panchayat body for their shares.
The event also included a felicitation ceremony to honor individuals for their contributions in different fields and an open discussion where members shared their concerns.
The meeting was attended by Zilla Panchayat members, Panchayat Members, Senior Audit Officers, officials from the Cooperation Department, representatives from Aristo Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., SISCO Bank (Singtam Branch), board members, and cooperative members.
The AGM highlighted the importance of cooperative societies in economic development and rural empowerment.
