Gangtok/ Darjeeling:2nd Dec: MP Darjeeling Raju Bista, has disclosed that the Tender for a New Bridge across river Teesta connecting Sevoke in Darjeeling to Ellenbari has been floated.’
MP has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari ji for giving this beautiful New Year’s Gift to the region and people.,’
MP says, ‘As most of you are aware, construction of an alternative to the historic Coronation Bridge has been a long standing demand of the people from our region. After six-long years of hard-work, I am so happy that another dream project of mine is getting shaped in reality.’
‘The historic Coronation bridge is an architectural marvel and has served the people of our region for generations. However, a modern India is deserving of a modern bridge that will shorten the travel time, improve connectivity, and save on fuel costs too. The central government has allocated a total of Rs 1172.77crore towards the project including costs related to civil construction, land acquisition, environmental costs etc.’
‘The Coronation Bridge serves as a vital link between Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Siliguri, the Dooars region, and North Eastern states, once completed this New Bridge will take up that role, and lessen the burden on the historic Coronation Bridge substantially.’
MP, has complimented and congratulated the people of the region, Social Organisations and NGOs who have struggled along with him towards the construction of this alternative bridge’.
MP has added, ‘On behalf of the people from our Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and MoRTH . Nitin Gadkari ji, and the entire NHAI leadership and team for giving top priority towards the development of our road infrastructure in our region.’
MP Bista has expressed pleasure and said, ‘With this, I have been able to fulfil another promise of mine made to the people of our Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region. I assure the people, I will not rest, till all the promises I have made to our people are fulfilled’.
