
Gangtok:7th June:BJP Sikkim State President D.R. Thapa today paid a courtesy call on Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta.
Thapa extended a warm welcome to the Minister and expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their unwavering commitment to strengthening road infrastructure across Sikkim. He noted that the Centre’s sustained focus on connectivity is playing a transformative role in accelerating development and improving the lives of people in the state.
During the interaction, Ajay Tamta informed that the Ministry is currently implementing and pursuing road infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹8,376 crore in Sikkim. He further highlighted that the cumulative investment in completed, ongoing, and approved road projects in the state has exceeded ₹10,901 crore, reflecting the Government of India’s strong commitment to enhancing connectivity, safety, and economic growth.
State BJP President,Thapa raised the pressing concerns of the people of North Sikkim, who continue to face significant hardships in the aftermath of the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) due to disrupted road connectivity. He also drew attention to the challenges associated with road construction in Sikkim’s fragile mountainous terrain and urged the Ministry to adopt sustainable, environment-friendly engineering solutions to ensure long-term stability and minimize disruptions.
The Minister assured that these concerns would be addressed with due priority and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to building resilient infrastructure for the people of Sikkim, according to communique from BJP Sikkim.
