g Association , observed Everest Day, here today. Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Raju Basnet, was the Chief Guest at the programme hosted in a local hotel in the honour of Everest Hero,Padam Bhushan, Sonam Gyatso (1923-1968).Minister was joined by the Special Guest Tenzing Norgay Lachungpa, Chairman Tourism & Civil Aviation and others along with mountaneers.
Chief Guest addressing the gathering,highlighted the fact that Sikkim’s has huge potential which needs to be tapped. If the link roads get improved and standard Home Stays much more can be done. ‘
‘Tourism can be boosted further. And income of the stakeholders can be increased. As presently we ate not much inclined towards agriculture we hardly see paddy fields so if tourism is taken up it will be profitable,’ said Minister specially as a message to youth . The youth can look forward to tpurism instead of Govt jobs he said further.
Chairman T& CA TGyatso Norgay Lachungpa, appreciated the mountaineering association for hosting the programme to honour the mountaineers.
President ,SMA Kunzang Gyatso,introduced the idea of boosting mountaineering Tourism, rock climbing adventure . He requested for support from minister Basnet for the Projects taken up by their organization. And enumerated achievements of association. They have been conducting mountaineering courses, did Dzongi rescue work when it was flooded,Everest climbing,glacier climbing and many other significant works.
Youngest son of late Everester Sonam Gyatso, delivered an address regarding his fathers life ,career and achievements.S.T Gyatso,also talked about the book on his father written by Dr Vidha Prakash Kayastha,from Nepal.
The Chief Guest,Special Guest jpined by others felicitated Mountaineers and Everesters of Sikkim and gave away awards.
