Sikkim has Potential as a ‘Himalayan Creative Economy Model’ : Yougan Tamang Press Secretary to CM

Press Secretary ,Yougan Tamang shared his insights on the immense potential of India’s creative economy, particularly that of the Northeast putting Sikkim on the spotlight, during the panel discussion titled ‘Orange is the New Currency: Creative Capital Uniting Nations’,  alongside esteemed international panelists, including H.E. Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega, Ambassador of Brazil, and H.E. Hanisha Jairam, Ambassador of Suriname.

Highlighting Sikkim’s emerging creative potential, Tamang said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Golay, the politics towards strengthening the creative economy is centred on Public-Private Partnership, utilising the immense potential of Sikkim’s youth for a meaningful purpose .

Tamang, noted that Sikkim is positioned to be a pilot state for a ‘Himalayan creative economy model’ under the current leadership, one that brings together sustainability, indigenous knowledge, cultural heritage and digital-age creative entrepreneurship. Such a model, he said, can create new avenues for young people while ensuring that economic growth remains rooted in the unique identity and ecological character of the Himalayas.

Speaking about the Northeast, Press Secretary Tamang ,underlined that the region’s unparalleled cultural diversity and heritage must not merely be celebrated, but also leveraged as an economic asset through the creative economy. He stressed that creating sustainable economic opportunities around indigenous art, culture, traditions, crafts, music, storytelling and other forms of creative expression can simultaneously generate livelihoods and strengthen the preservation of heritage.Highlighting the Chief Minister’s vision for Creatorpreneur Policy , he also noted that  the young minds can be leveraged to drive the economy of the state and the country.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s description of the Northeast as ‘Ashtalakshmi’, Tamang said that it is time for the mainstream to look towards the Northeast for its enormous creative and economic potential.

As part of the forum, Yougan Tamang also participated in a roundtable chaired by Vijay Chauthaiwale, In-charge, Foreign Affairs Department and Member, National Executive of the BJP, which focused on ‘Cultural Diplomacy & Soft Power’.
