Gangtok :4th June: Sikkim CM PS Tamang, attended the 73rd Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC), chaired by the Union Home Minister and Chairman of NEC, Amit Shah , in the presence of the Union Minister for DoNER, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia , Governors and Chief Ministers from the north-eastern states.
During the meeting, CM Tamang , highlighted Sikkim’s key development priorities aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, encompassing organic agriculture, tourism, education, skill development, MSME growth, innovation, and infrastructure development. He emphasized the need to strengthen agricultural value chains and market linkages across the North Eastern Region, sought the continuation of the MOVCDNER scheme to sustain the momentum of organic farming, and requested support for the extension of NEIIPP benefits beyond 2027.’
‘Similarly, as the Convenor of the High-Level Task Force on Agriculture and Horticulture for Addressing Gaps in Value Chains and Market Linkages in the North Eastern Region, he presented the recommendations of the Task Force through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation’
According to him ,’The report outlined strategic interventions aimed at strengthening value chains, enhancing market access, improving agricultural productivity, promoting value addition, and fostering sustainable growth in the agriculture and horticulture sectors across the North Eastern States,’
CM said ,he ‘also drew attention to the challenges posed by recurring flash floods and urged for a permanent solution to NH-10 connectivity issues, early completion of key road, rail, air, and digital infrastructure projects, and urgent restoration measures for the Chungthang–Lachen road affected in the Tarum Chu area in North Sikkim.’
The deliberations reflected a shared commitment towards unlocking the immense potential of the North Eastern Region and advancing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development for the prosperity of our farmers, communities, and future generations.
CM has expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah ,for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the development of the North East. He has also extended thanks to Minister for DoNER Jyotiraditya M. Scindia the Ministry of DoNER, the NEC Secretariat, the Government of Meghalaya led by Chief Minister Conrad K. CM has further said, ‘Together, we reaffirm our collective resolve to build a stronger, more prosperous, and self-reliant North Eastern Region’.
