Gangtok:5th Oct: CM PS Tamang,has paid tribute to Late Nar Bahadur Bhandari .CM has said ,’On the birth anniversary of Late Nar Bahadur Bhandari, the second Chief Minister of Sikkim, I pay my deepest and heartfelt tribute to a distinguished leader whose vision, dedication and service left an enduring imprint on the history and progress of our State.’
‘Born on October 5, 1940, Bhandari served as the Chief Minister of Sikkim from 1979 to 1994. His tenure was marked by a deep commitment to the welfare of the people and a clear vision for the social, cultural and economic advancement of Sikkim’.
‘Among his most significant contributions was his historic role in securing the inclusion of the Nepali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. This landmark achievement safeguarded the linguistic rights of the Nepali-speaking community and gave enduring recognition to its language and cultural identity at the national level,’ CM added .
‘The observance of “Shri Bhandari Jayanti” as a gazetted holiday by our Government is a humble expression of respect for his invaluable contribution to Sikkim. The Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship Scheme, established in his memory, further reflects his enduring belief in the power of education and the potential of Sikkim’s young minds, enabling deserving students to pursue higher studies at leading universities across the world.’
‘His integrity, foresight and commitment to public service earned him the profound respect and affection of the people of Sikkim. His life and legacy remain a lasting reminder of the values of service, justice, equality and dedication to the people,’ CM added further about late Bhandari.
‘On this solemn occasion, we remember Late Nar Bahadur Bhandari with gratitude and reverence, and draw strength from his life of service. May his ideals continue to guide us in our collective endeavour to build a stronger, more prosperous and harmonious Sikkim’.
