Gangtok:10th July:’ Reciprocal Transport Agreement between the Governments of Sikkim and West Bengal was successfully signed today at Paribahan Bhavan, Kolkata, by Ravinder Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, Manish Pradhan, Secretary, Transport Department, Government of Sikkim, and Roshan Pradhan, ATC-cum-Secretary, State Transport Authority, Government of Sikkim, in the august presence of the Minister-in-Charge, Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, Arjun Singh .
‘This landmark agreement marks a major step forward for our Sarathis (Chalak). It doubles the countersignature permit quota for Sikkim taxis from 3,000 to 6,000, allows taxi vehicles operating under Special Permits to pick up passengers on their return journey from Siliguri and other areas, and removes the requirement of countersignature permits for Sikkim-based transport vehicles plying between Rangpo and Melli, making travel and transport more convenient and efficient,’ said CM PS Tamang.
CM PS Tamang has expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari , the Minister-in-Charge, Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, Arjun Singh and the Government of West Bengal ‘ for their prompt support and cooperation in making this long-awaited agreement a reality within such a short span of time.’
This landmark achievement will provide significant relief to our Sarathis (Chalak), enhance regional connectivity, and further strengthen the enduring bond of friendship and cooperation between Sikkim and West Bengal.
