Gangtok:1st Aug:Bharatiya Janata Party, Sikkim, warmly welcomes the resumption of border trade through the historic Nathu La Pass after a six-year suspension. This marks a significant milestone in strengthening economic cooperation, promoting regional prosperity, and rebuilding confidence between India and China.
‘The reopening of Nathu La is the continuation of a visionary initiative of the NDA Government under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Following the landmark India–China agreement reached during his visit to China in 2003, the historic trade route was officially reopened on 6 July 2006, reconnecting Sikkim with Tibet after a gap of 44 years and reviving an important chapter of the ancient Silk Route,’ said Spokesperson,BJP Sikkim.
‘Although border trade remained suspended from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the prevailing border situation, today’s resumption reflects the Government of India’s continued commitment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restoring normalcy, promoting peace along the border, and advancing constructive engagement with neighbouring countries while safeguarding India’s national interests.’
‘BJP Sikkim believes that the reopening of Nathu La will provide a major boost to trade, commerce, tourism, employment, and livelihoods in Sikkim, particularly benefiting local traders, transporters, hospitality businesses, and border communities. It will also further strengthen bilateral economic relations and people-to-people exchanges between India and China.’
BJP Sikkim congratulates the Governments of India and China on this positive development and expresses hope that the resumption of border trade will usher in a new era of economic opportunity, regional connectivity, and lasting peace for the benefit of both nations,’ said, Passang Gyali Sherpa ,Spokesperson ,BJP Sikkim
