
Minister Bhim Hang inaugurates MPLAD funded Futsal Arena Dedicated to Students and Youth of Pelling Chumpong
A newly constructed futsal arena, built under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of the 17th Lok Sabha, was inaugurated by Minister Bhim Hang Subba, today at Pelling Chumpong Secondary School in Gyalshing District. The facility, aims at promoting sporting culture and physical well-being.It is dedicated to the students and youth of the region.
During the inauguration ceremony Minister Buildings & Housing,Bhim Hang Limboo was joined by the Area MLA of 02 Yangthang Constituency. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of MP Lok Sabha Sikkim Indra Hang Subba and MLA 05 Rinchenpong Erung Tenzing Lepcha.
Constructed with funds sanctioned under the MPLADS scheme, the arena is a state-of-the-art facility that adds to the growing sports infrastructure in rural Sikkim. The Headmaster-in-charge of the school, N.T. Bhutia, remarked that this is one of the most modern sports facilities received by the school to date.
Pelling Chumpong Secondary School holds a proud legacy of nurturing talented athletes, including International Football Player Priya Chettri, who has represented both the state and the nation in numerous prestigious tournaments. Speaking at the event, MP Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba dedicated the futsal arena to the students of the school and emphasized the importance of providing quality sports infrastructure to harness young talent. He also urged the School Management Committee (SMC) to adopt a sustainable model for the upkeep of the facility and to continue producing sports personalities like Priya Chettri.
The event also saw participation from Zilla Panchayat members, local Panchayats, School Management Committee members, Joint Director of Education and subordinate staff, ASP of Gyalshing District, Joint Director of Sports, students, guardians, and members of the public.
To mark the occasion and inspire young athletes, an exhibition futsal match was played between Minister Bhim Hang Limboo, MP Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba, and MLA Erung Tenzing Lepcha. This friendly match was a symbolic gesture promoting fitness, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm for sports among students.
This initiative is a significant step toward strengthening sports engagement in rural areas and building community spirit through physical activity. It reflects a broader commitment to creating vibrant, active, and empowered youth through enhanced access to modern sports facilities.
