Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba on 22nd July met the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Vipin Kumar, at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi.
During the meeting, Dr. Subba sought urgent intervention for expediting the restoration works related to the critical slope failures at Pakyong Airport.
Dr. Subba apprised the Chairman that the slope failures have become a major cause for concern. He informed that the landslide triggered by the failure below the runway has severely affected National Highway 717A, causing immense hardship to commuters and the local residents of Pakyong. He further stated that the DPR and cost estimates for the required slope stabilization and restoration works have remained pending for several months, leading to unnecessary delay in initiating the restoration process.
Dr. Subba pointed out that with two monsoon seasons having passed without any restoration work, the condition of the affected slopes continues to deteriorate, making rehabilitation more challenging and increasing the associated risks and costs. He emphasized that all planning must be completed before the working season begins after the monsoon.
In view of the strategic importance of Pakyong Airport and the ongoing difficulties faced by the public, Dr. Subba earnestly requested the personal intervention of the Chairman to ensure expeditious commencement and early completion of the restoration works,’according to communique from Office of Dr. Indra Hang Subba
