Gangtok, July 29: The Rennjyong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom (RMRK), Sikkim Lepcha Literary Association, led by its President OT Lepcha and
executive members, has expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the Government of Sikkim and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Golay for the landmark decision to introduce the study of the Lepcha language at Burtuk College.
Describing the initiative as both historic and commendable, the association stated that the decision marks a significant milestone in the preservation, promotion, and advancement of the Lepcha language and its rich cultural heritage.
‘The introduction of Lepcha language studies at the college level is a matter of immense pride and joy for the Lepcha community. The initiative will provide younger generations with greater opportunities to learn, understand, and preserve their ancestral language, identity, literature, and cultural legacy,’ According to the LL Association.
Lepchas are ethnic people of Sikkim and Tribal. They are one out of 3 ethnic communities on record in Sikkim.
