Gangtok:2nd Oct: Former CM of Sikkim Pawan Chamling in his message to public on Gandhi Jayant, today has said,’On the solemn occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, I pay my deepest respects to Mahatma Gandhi, whose life and philosophy continue to illuminate the path of truth, peace and non-violence across the world.’
‘On this day, we commemorate Gandhiji’s birth anniversary and remember his immense contribution not only to India’s freedom struggle, but also to the evolution of non-violent resistance as a powerful force for social and political change across the world. His principles of Satya (Truth) and Ahimsa (Non-violence) provided a moral framework for leadership and public life that remains profoundly relevant even today. ‘
‘His philosophy and principles of political action have influenced movements across the world from the Civil Rights Movement in the USA to anti colonial movements across Asia and Africa. In recognition of the universal relevance of his philosophy, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2 October as the International Day of Non-Violence in 2007.’
‘On this Gandhi Jayanti, let us reflect upon Gandhiji’s vast body of thought and his enduring legacy of peace, justice, truth and human dignity. In a world increasingly disturbed by wars, conflicts and divisions today, his message of non-violence and reconciliation carries renewed, critical significance.’
‘I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of Sikkim on Gandhi Jayanti. May the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi continue to guide our collective journey towards truth, justice and enduring peace.’
