Gangtok:22nd July: Sikkim Legislative Session’s 3rd day was marked by adoptipn of a Government Resolution , moved by Minister-in-Charge of the Forest and Environment , Pintso Namgyal Lepcha and seconded by MLA Sonam Tshering Venchungpa, seeking adoption of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024 (No. 5 of 2024) in the State of Sikkim under Article 252 of the Constitution of India.
It has been mentioned that the Act shall apply to the States which adopt the said Act by passing a resolution in their respective Legislative Assemblies under clause (1) of Article 252 of the Constitution read with clause (2) thereof, with effect from the date of such adoption;It is already applicable to Rajasthan , HP and Union territories.
And. , the aim of the Act is to decriminalize the provisions of the original Act “Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974” [6 of 1974] to facilitate ease of doing business in the country and to streamline the process of nomination of Chairman of State Pollution Control Boards;
