Birth Anniversary of the First ever Indian Nepali CM Nar Bahadur Bhandari : CM PS Tamang pays Tributes
Gangtok,5th Oct: Birth Anniversary of Late NB Bhandari,then CM of Sikkim has been observed here at Samman Bhavan ,today Chief Minister PS Tamang ,Ministers ,MLA’s ,Advisers,Municipal Deputy Mayor ,Councillors and a couple of officers attended.
CM Tamang followed by others offered flowers at the portrait of Late Bhandari and 85 butter lamps were lit in his memory marking 85th B/irth Anniversary.
Officer on Special Duty,Bhawani Ghimirey delivered a talk on life and history of Bhandari. He said ,
‘NB Bhandari was the builder of modern Sikkim.He was born in an ordinary family of Malbasey,Soreng in 1940.Bhandari gave up noble teaching profession In favour of Politics to serve public.Never betrayed public.He bore his responsibilities with accountability and sincerity.
A teacher not only for students but all.He never compromised with anti -Sikkim forces.’During
late Bhandari ‘s period Nepali language got included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.His achievements include,provision of free text books to School students in free education to School and College students.Besides these,late Bhandari introduced Son of Soil policy,and jobs restricted to Sikkim Subjects.During his Fourteen and a half year rule ,he linked many rural areas with electricity supply,Water supply and Housing for poor .Bhandari also started many Public Health Centres and Sub- Centres in rural Sikkim,’added OSD.
Despite ,struggles he served Sikkim with dedication’.
