GANGTOK:6th Oct: Sangay Bhutia,BJP Sikkim said to that ‘a delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sikkim today visited the Vigilance Department to enquire about the status of a corruption complaint filed regarding alleged financial misappropriation in the work REPAIR OF MACHONG PHC DOCTORS QUARTER, under Pakyong District.
The delegation comprised State Spokesperson Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, Sitting Zilla Panchayat (14-Linkey Machong Territorial Constituency) Megraj Sharma, and District President Mangan Nim Pintso Bhutia.
The matter came to light following a Right to Information (RTI) application filed at the Zilla Panchayat Office, Pakyong District, on August 5, 2025. Upon reviewing the official RTI replies and following multiple appellate hearings, significant anomalies were uncovered.
Physical verification of the project site, conducted in line with the official work estimate and the Measurement Book (MB), revealed that no actual repair or renovation work was carried out at the Machong PHC Doctor’s Quarter. Despite the complete absence of physical work on the ground, official completion reports were allegedly submitted, and full bill amounts were claimed and drawn from the Government Treasury.
After failing to receive satisfactory responses or corrective actions from the concerned department, a formal complaint was initially approached at the Pakyong Police Station. Due to the nature of the financial corruption and administrative irregularities involved, the police advised bringing the case before the specialized anti-corruption authority.
Consequently, a formal complaint seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) / Regular Case (RC) and a detailed anti-corruption investigation was submitted to the Vigilance Department on July 4, 2026.
‘During today’s visit, officials at the Vigilance Department informed the delegation that a formal investigation into the matter has been initiated and is actively underway. The department assured the team that its officers are working diligently to examine all documents and physical evidence related to the case,’ added Sangay Bhutia.
“We maintain complete faith in the Vigilance Department and believe the investigation will be conducted in an entirely fair, transparent, and unbiased manner. Furthermore, we appeal directly to the Home Minister, Government of Sikkim, to instruct police and investigative agencies to fast-track this probe with utmost priority. The citizens of Sikkim expect the government to stand firm on its commitment of zero tolerance against corruption,” said Bhutia further.
