Gangtok:11th Sept:Many in Sikkim celebrated Father’s Day,today also known as the Kushe Aunsi said to be the day to look at father’s face and honour him.
Sabitri Chettri ,revealed that she greeted her father in the morning as he is far away over phone.
‘We give gifts to father, enjoy traditional food with him whenever an opportunity is there.’Our houses are cleaned with Kush the sacred grass.Our Sons and Daughters also have been carrying forward the tradition of Kushe Aunsi – Buba ko mukh herney din different from international Fathers day ‘,she added.
The sacred grass( kush) is symbolical of Lord Vishnu and (Aunsi )is the New Moon day in the lunar month of Bhadra corresponding to August/ September.
A visiting pundit priest informed that on Kushey aunsi they bring lots of sacred grass and use it in temple and altars foe long time for puja as also making the place of worship clean of anything evil.
In case father is no more ,the system requires visit to temples and prayers ,bathing in holy rivers.
However,it can be interpreted as the respect for nature and father ,which should not be lacking at at all.( NN)
