Jacob Khaling Prez Badminton Association Sikkim Discusses Hosting -49th Yonex Sunrise Junior National Badminton Championships 2026
Gangtok:4th Sept:A delegation of the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS), led by its President, Jacob Rai, and General Secretary, Sukanta Das, called on the Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Sikkim, Raju Basnet, today to discuss preparations for the upcoming 49th Yonex Sunrise Junior National Badminton Championships 2026, scheduled to be hosted in Gangtok.
During the meeting, the BAS delegation briefed the Minister on the preparations, organisational requirements and various arrangements necessary for the successful hosting of this prestigious national-level championship. The delegation also discussed the importance of close coordination between BAS, the Government of Sikkim and the Sports & Youth Affairs Department to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The championship is expected to bring together some of the finest young badminton players from across the country and will provide Sikkim with a significant opportunity to showcase its sporting infrastructure, hospitality and organisational capabilities at the national level.
The delegation included BAS Senior Vice President Tshering Palden Bhutia and Mahendra Chetri, along with Executive Members Sonam Bhutia, G.B. Subba, Norbu Dadul and Tshering Sherpa.
The Sports Minister, Raju Basnet, assured the delegation of full support and cooperation from the Government of Sikkim and the Sports & Youth Affairs Department for the successful conduct of the championship. He appreciated the efforts of the Badminton Association of Sikkim in bringing such a prestigious national sporting event to the state and assured that all possible assistance would be extended for its smooth and successful organisation.
The Badminton Association of Sikkim expressed its sincere gratitude to the Minister and the Government of Sikkim for their continued encouragement and support.
