Gangtok:18th Aug: Mandira Rawat bags First prize in ‘ Pathan ra Vichar ko Chunauti ‘ contest hosted by Sikkim Akademy led by Prawin Rai Jumeli,at SC Bhawn here today.Political Secretary to CM PS Tamang, presided over Pathan ra Vichar ko Chunauti ‘ Challenge to Read and express opinion.He gave away prizes to 3 Winners.Javob Khaling joined by others gave 2nd prize to NB Ghimerey Journalist and 3rd to Pramil Theeng. Consolation prizes to 7 orhers .Khaling congratulated all the 3 winners and
annouced an additional Rs 5000/-
cash each on his behalf to 7 who secured place among top 10 but were given consolation prize by Akademy.
Addressing the gathering of intellectuals and students,Jacob Khaling said. ‘We should read something which is practically useful in life.Whereas,while writing a balance should be maintained between literary creations,keeping in mind that it affects everyone including children and youth.It would be helpful if we create literature on knowledge,science, innovation and all that is new in this digital era,going with times’.
‘ But it is disgusting that we have such a good literature but not many readers.If our literature is yourh oriented it would possibly improve the situation ,’ added Political Secy Khaling.He appreciated the Akademy team for holding such a useful programme and encouraged them to organize such sessions twice a year.
The Akademy had three judges for the final phase of selection held today ,including Dr Prof Balaram Pandey,Pempa Tamang former Prez of Akademy and Jay Cactus prominent Literary figure.
Earlier Prawin Khaling in his Introductory speech announced that first phase had 30 contestants out of which top 10 have been selected,for today ‘s programme.All the 30 had entered submitting digital opinion on the book selected by each out of 30 recommended by Sikkim Akademy.
GS SAkady Purna Yonzon,welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of reading books and learning.
The programme was unprecedented and useful encouraging youth to develope book reading culture which is being focused on by State Govt also.
