Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba Calls on Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Submits Memorandum on Key Issues Concerning Sikkim
New Delhi:30th July:Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Dr. Indra Hang Subba, today called on the Prime Minister of India,Narendra Modi, at his office in Parliament House, New Delhi.
On behalf of the people of Sikkim and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Dr. Subba conveyed warm greetings, best wishes, and sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for the continued support extended by the NDA Government towards the development of Sikkim.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister enquired about the recent unfortunate tunnel mishap in Sikkim. Dr. Subba briefed him on the prompt response of the Government in managing the situation and expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s concern, compassion, and support extended to the families of the victims.
Dr. Subba also submitted a detailed representation highlighting several long-pending developmental and strategic issues of importance to Sikkim. The memorandum included the following key requests:
1. Early inclusion of the twelve left-out communities of Sikkim in the Scheduled Tribe List.
2. Revisiting the Representation of the People Act, 1950, to enable reservation of seats for Scheduled Tribes in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and address the long-pending demand of the Limboo and Tamang Scheduled Tribes.
3. Facilitating the visit of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa to Sikkim.
4. Construction of an alternative Greenfield Highway parallel to NH-10, away from the Teesta valley, to ensure reliable all-weather connectivity.
5. Development of a strategic all-weather road along the Indo-Nepal border in western Sikkim and construction of roads connecting Border Outposts (BOPs).
6. Restoration of scheduled commercial flight operations at Pakyong Airport.
7. Establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) or an extension campus of an existing IIT in Sikkim.
8. Establishment of a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Sikkim to promote handloom, textiles, and sustainable livelihoods.
Dr. Subba expressed confidence that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these important aspirations of the people of Sikkim would receive due consideration and contribute significantly to the State’s inclusive, strategic, and sustainable development,according to information 0Office of the Sikkim’s Memberof Parliament Lok Sabha.
