Gangtok / Darj ;29th July;MP Darjeeling Raju Bista,has expressed deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and stand in solidarity with everyone affected by this tragedy.
:As a humble gesture of support, I will be donating my salary for this month as the Member of Parliament from Darjeeling to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,’ said Bista.
MP Darj. has appealed to the people of Darjeeling Hills, Terai and Dooars, as well as NGOs, social organisations and political organisations, to extend whatever support they can to the ongoing relief efforts. Every contribution, big or small, can help bring hope and relief to those in need.
Over the past few weeks, Assam has been battling severe monsoon floods that have claimed over 75 lives and affected lakhs of people.
When devastating landslides and floods struck the Darjeeling Hills, Terai and Dooars in October 2025, the Government of Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma Ji and the Assam BJP stood firmly with us by sending truckloads of relief materials. The people of our region will always remain grateful to the people and the Government of Assam for that timely act of compassion and solidarity. Today, it is our turn to stand with them’.
At present, more than 3.32 lakh people remain affected across the districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan. Around 622 villages continue to face the impact of the floods, while nearly 45,000 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged. More than 32,000 people are taking shelter in 81 relief camps, and personnel from the Army, the Indian Air Force, the NDRF, the SDRF and the local administration are working tirelessly to carry out rescue and relief operations.
In this difficult hour, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Assam.
