Gangtok:22nd July : Ongoing 4 day long General Budget Session 2026–27 of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, saw passing of three Bills, adoption of a Government Resolution and the passing of Separate Demands for Grants .
The session was presided over by Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa for passing of bills and Deputy Speaker Rajkumari Thapa ,for Separate demands for Grants of different departments respectively.
During the legislative business, the House passed the bills introduced earlier,including Sikkim Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (Bill No. 05 of 2026) and the Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education, Sikkim (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (Bill No. 06 of 2026), moved by Minister-in-Charge of the Education Department, Raju Basnet, and the Sikkim Fire and Emergency Services (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (Bill No. 10 of 2026), moved by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in his capacity as Minister-in-Charge of the Home Department.
