Namchi, July 21 : According to Govt communique from Namchi at 4.40 am , ‘Search and rescue operations are continuing to evacuate the workers trapped inside the under-construction tunnel of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project at Samardung, Jholungey, under Namchi District.’
As per the latest official information, seven fatalities have been reported by the District Administration. The deceased bodies have been taken to Singtam District Hospital, STNM Hospital, Gangtok, and Namchi District Hospital.
The Namchi District Administration, in coordination with NHPC officials, SDRF, NDRF, Sikkim Police, Fire and Emergency Services, the Health Department, and other line departments, is continuously carrying out the operation. The situation is being closely monitored by SSDMA, further updates will be issued as necessary.
