Gangtok:14th July: First ever programme celebrating women serving the Forest deptt of State Govt was hosted here,on Tuesday.Deputy Speaker , Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Raj Kumari Thapa, attended as the Chief Guest. MLAs Kala Rai and Pamin Lepcha accompanied by Tshering Palden , Mayor GMC joined by a few women achievers joined the galaxy of forest Conservators. The peogramme was also a valedictory for the ‘Paryavaran Parva’started on 1st July.
Deputy Speaker, appreciated the service done by women workforce of the deptt and encouraged all the women to grow trees,plant saplings,continue conservation and add to cleanliness. She also referred to relation between human beings and nature . Mentioned State Govt’s flagship programmes like ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati and Mero Bato Mero Bot’ and urged the gathering to continue it.
Mayor GMC , Tshering Palden spoke about GMC aspiring to keep Sikkim clean and in the series having removed the stench from the atmosphere on a patch of road(NH -10) caused by Martam Dumping Yard. It has now been converted to a wellness space.
Senior Forest Officers ,Rajani Bhandari and K Gurung ,said the programme has been organised to celebrate achievements of women ,their knowledge and experience.
The officers maintained the Female employees in the Forest deptt are as good as their male counterparts.They stressed on full participation by women employees.
Forest women have been attributed inspiring youth and communities for conservation of forests.Working towards Tiger corridors ,with Bhutan,from there all the way to Sikkim.
Forest women favoured flexible working hours, Exposure to strategic assignments,equal opportunity.
The programme was marked by a self composed mesmerizing song sung by Range Officer Rekha Chettri,about Sikkim and natural beauty.And a documentary about the conservation activities .
Earlier field staff were felicitated for conservation.
