Gangtok:28th June : While the Pulse Polio Immunization programne was held across the State Capital Gangtok saw many booths .
Parents started visiting the boorhs in their area with children.
Even certain VIPs visited booths. Prominent among them included MLA Soreng -Chakhung, Aditya Golay and Mrs Aditya with their kid, who was administered Oral Pulse Polio drops( vaccine) by health workers at the booth near Star Mall. Others followed till 3.15 pm.All the eligible children were administered vaccine and given a mini card.
Presently India has been declared Polio free,but to develop immunity and to prevent paralysis type of issues the O PPV is administered to kids from 0-5 years of age free of cost by Govts including State Govt of Sikkim through Health & Family Welfare Deptt. Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Observed at STNM Hospital
Further ,the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) OPD of STNM Hospital also observed the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme at the OPD Block on Sunday,as part of the ongoing National Polio Eradication Programme. It is also to pursue nation’s commitment to sustaining a polio-free India.
The programme was conducted in the presence of the Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Senior Sister Tutor, Community Health Officer, Lady Health Visitors, and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife. Nursing personnel from the Labour Room, Postpartum Unit (PPU) Ward, Paediatric Ward, and Private Annexure Ward, including Staff Nurses, also actively participated in the immunization drive, ensuring its smooth and successful implementation.
Healthcare personnel also sensitized parents and caregivers on the importance of ensuring that every child receives the polio vaccine during every round of the campaign, as repeated doses are essential for building and maintaining immunity against poliovirus.
The Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim,is committed towards safeguarding children against vaccine-preventable diseases and contributing to the national goal of maintaining a polio-free India.
