GANGTOK:10th June : ‘Following widespread public distress and a flurry of complaints regarding the severe shortage of LPG cylinders across Sikkim, a high-level BJP delegation visited State Trading Corporation of Sikkim (STCS) office today.’
‘Acting under the strict direction of BJP Sikkim State President D.R. Thapa, the delegation—led by State Spokesperson Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, State Secretary Sangay Pulger, and BJYM State President Lalit Pokhrel—confronted the STCS management to demand answers and relief for the suffering citizens of Sikkim’, according to BJP here.
BJP Sikkim added , ‘During a detailed and serious discussion with the Managing Director of STCS, the BJP leadership aggressively highlighted the administrative failures and hardships currently plaguing the common public:
• Gross Supply Inefficiency: The delegation pointed out the unacceptable scenes across the state, where hundreds of citizens line up for hours to replace their cylinders, only for half of them to be turned away empty-handed.
• Administrative Bottlenecks: The team strictly apprised the department of the severe frustration surrounding KYC verification glitches and DAC number errors, which are locking ordinary citizens out of essential fuel access.
• Impact on Vulnerable Groups: The delegation heavily emphasized that the student community and daily-wage earners are bearing the worst brunt of this shortage, disrupting their education and livelihoods.’
In response to the sharp questioning by the BJP delegation, the Managing Director of STCS acknowledged the crisis but attributed the core bottleneck to broader supply chain disruptions.
According to the management, the acute shortage in Sikkim stems directly from a fall in supply from regional bottling plants, which has been exacerbated by global supply chain pressures arising from ongoing West Asia conflicts. The Managing Director assured the team that his department is working around the clock to correct these logistics failures.’
BJP Sikkim has further added a ‘Note to Consumers: In light of the constrained supply from the bottling plants, the STCS management has urged the public to use their available gas resources as judiciously as possible while standard supply levels are being restored.’
‘While acknowledging the logistical explanations provided by the STCS, BJP Sikkim remains firmly unsatisfied with local stop-gap measures when the welfare of the Sikkimese people is at stake.
To ensure an immediate and permanent resolution, BJP Sikkim will formally communicate the gravity of this crisis directly to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The party will request immediate, high-level intervention to expedite and prioritize LPG allocations to Sikkim.
BJP Sikkim stands unflinchingly committed to the welfare of the people of Sikkim,’ said Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, Spokesperson BJP Sikkim.
