Gangtok: CM PD Tanang has greeted people of Sikkim on the WCD today. In his message CM has said, ‘On the propitious occasion of World Consumer Rights Day 2026, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to the people of our beautiful State.’
‘This day serves as an important reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard consumer rights and promote a fair, transparent, and accountable marketplace. Safe products and confident consumers are indeed the twin pillars of a thriving and equitable economy.’
‘As Mahatma Gandhi wisely said, “The consumer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us; we are dependent on him.” This profound message continues to guide our efforts in strengthening consumer protection mechanisms and ensuring that the rights of every consumer are respected and upheld.’
‘Guided by this principle, the Government of Sikkim, through the Legal Metrology Unit and the Consumer Protection Cell under the Food and Civil Supplies Department, remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring product safety, transparency in trade practices, and ethical standards in the marketplace across the State.’
CM Tamang,has urged all ( Sikkim people) citizens to remain vigilant, informed, and proactive in exercising their consumer rights. The State Consumer Helpline serves as an accessible and reliable platform for registering grievances and seeking timely redressal, thereby enabling consumers to participate in the marketplace with confidence and assurance.’
‘lThis year’s theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” underscores the vital connection between product integrity and consumer trust. A safe marketplace strengthens public confidence and contributes significantly to sustainable economic growth.’
‘As Swami Vivekananda encouraged, “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.” Let us embrace this spirit and work collectively to ensure that every consumer in Sikkim can engage in commerce with dignity, safety, and certainty.’
On this occasion, CM has also appealed, to businesses, traders, and service providers to uphold the highest standards of honesty, accountability, and responsibility. By fostering mutual respect between consumers and businesses, we can build a marketplace that is safe, fair, and inclusive for all.’
