New Delhi, 27 January 2026—
Hon’ble Member of Parliament Shri Indra Hang Subba today attended the All-Party Meeting representing the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM). The meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji, in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju Ji, Hon’ble Minister Shri J. P. Nadda Ji, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal Ji, and Shri L. Murugan Ji.
During the meeting, Shri Indra Hang Subba raised the critical issue of climate change and its severe impact on the Himalayan and glacial ecosystem, including drinking water scarcity and the increasing incidence of flash floods. He strongly demanded a special discussion on climate change on the floor of Parliament. The Hon’ble MP further proposed the constitution of a Standing Committee comprising Members of Parliament from Himalayan regions to deliberate on region-specific challenges and to recommend necessary changes in policies and schemes.
In view of the ongoing Budget Session, Shri Subba suggested to the Chair and the Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs that provisions be made for discussions on the Demands for Grants of Ministries related to Tribal Affairs, Minority Affairs, and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), so that the issues and priorities may be discussed in detail. He emphasised that the welfare of tribal and minority communities is of utmost importance if the vision of Viksit Bharat is to be realised.
Representing the people of Sikkim, the Hon’ble MP apprised the House of the long-pending issue of reservation of the Limboo–Tamang seat in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and urged the Union Government to take immediate action. He also highlighted the State Government’s demand for the inclusion of 12 left-out communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, stating that their exclusion is a historical mistake and requires immediate resolution to ensure equity and justice in Sikkim.
Shri Indra Hang Subba reaffirmed his commitment to raising the concerns of Sikkim and the Himalayan region and to working constructively for inclusive and sustainable national development, as per communique from office of the MP.
