Sonam Lama witnessed a beautiful and deeply meaningful celebration of the Lepcha New Year, marked by a unique traditional practice that reflects the spirit of community and cultural pride. As part of the celebration, Lepcha youth moved from house to house, filling the villages with traditional songs and the rhythmic energy of the Lasso, creating an atmosphere of joy, unity, and reverence for their roots.
The moment became especially memorable when youth from Dzongu visited the residence of the Minister and showcased the Lasso with great enthusiasm and grace. Their performance was not just a cultural display but a heartfelt expression of identity, respect for elders, and continuity of tradition passed down through generations.
Moved by the dedication and sincerity of the youth, Minister Ven. Sonam Lama warmly praised them for their efforts in preserving and promoting Lepcha culture and traditions in today’s fast-changing world. He acknowledged it and said, ‘such participation by young people from grassroots plays a vital role in keeping indigenous heritage alive, meaningful, and relevant’.
